This book is devoted to the 2004 Presidential Elections in Ukraine. The texts are original articles, reports, public statements and personal appeals, all written in direct response to the events unfolding in the months preceding the elections and during the «Orange Revolution». They provide insight and analysis into the human rights issues which came to the fore and prompted an unprecedented affirmation by millions of Ukrainians of their fundamental rights, including the right to choose their own leaders. Human rights in Ukraine – 2006. Human rights organizations report
Kharkiv: Prava Ludyny, 2007. – 472 р. This book considers the human rights situation in Ukraine during 2006 and the first five months of 2007. It is based on studies by various non-governmental human rights organizations and specialists in this area. The first part gives a general assessment of state policy with regard to human rights in this period, while in the second part each unit concentrates on identifying and analysing violations of specific rights in this period, as well as discussing any positive moves which were made in protecting the given rights. Current legislation which encourages infringements of rights and freedoms is also analyzed, together with draft laws which could change the situation. The conclusions of the research contain recommendations for eliminating the violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms and improving the overall situation.
